How It Works
NoGo Sierra gives you a real-time read on conditions across 3,000+ Sierra Nevada locations. Here's how to get the most out of the map.
The Map
Every colored pin on the map is a Sierra Nevada location — trailhead, lake, resort, campground, or peak. Pins are color-coded from green (go) through yellow and orange to red (avoid). Tap any pin to open its full condition card.
NoGo Score
The score shown on each pin (0–100) is a composite of up to 8 real-time and forecast signals: weather, crowding, avalanche danger, fire, traffic, air quality, trail status, and seasonality. Lower scores mean better conditions.
Crowding Index
Shown separately from the NoGo score, the crowding index estimates how busy a location will be during your selected time window. It draws on live presence data, historical patterns, and traffic proxies.
Time of Day
Use the Morning / Afternoon / Evening selector at the top of the map to see forecast conditions for a specific window. Scores update in real time as you switch between day parts.
Region Filter
Tap Region in the header to narrow the map to a specific corridor: North Sierra, Tahoe, Yosemite, Mammoth, Eastern Sierra, or Kings / Sequoia. This loads a denser pin set for that corridor.
Map Modes
Switch between Terrain (default), Topo, and 3D Satellite using the controls on the right side of the map. Topo mode includes a Light toggle for outdoor use in bright sunlight.
Overlay Layers
Enable the heatmap to see a regional score grid, or the avalanche overlay to see current NWAC / CAIC danger ratings shaded on the map.
Route Planning
Tap the route icon in the right controls column to enter route-planning mode. The map switches to 3D satellite view. Draw a path by tapping waypoints — your route is shown with distance and elevation context.
